antique clock

If collecting antique wall clocks is your passion, then knowing something about clocks is also a good idea. Here are some tips for beginning your antique collection of clocks.

First, know your history. There are several websites as well as books in your local library that can help you with the history of clocks. It is easy to replicate an antique clock these days, so understanding the history of clocks and their inventors will at least help you possibly identify a fake.

Second, know how clock through the ages worked. Most antiques are more valuable if they are in working condition. Of course, it may be impossible for some antique clocks to ever work again due to the rarity of part availability. Although you may be able to reproduce important parts yourself, but you will only know this if you know something about how these clocks work.

Third, follow other collectors around. Not in a stalker sort of way, ask their permission to join them on an outing to an antique mall or store or even a museum. If you don't know someone that has already been collecting for a while, it's easy to simply find an antique fair and talk to different people about what they know. Most people are fairly easy to talk to when you're both interested in the same things. If you've already studied up on your history, as suggested in step one, you will be able to carry on an intelligent conversation and probably learn a great deal in the process.
